The family of a 17-year-old boy who drowned during a kyak race on the Thames have paid tribute to him - saying their only consolation was that he died doing a sport he loved.

William Carus, from Tonbridge, is believed to suffered an epileptic seizure during an eight-mile race near Richmond on Sunday.

In a statement, his family said: "This was an appalling accident with tragic consequences for Will, his family and his many friends. Our one consolation is that he died doing something for which he had an absolute passion on a beautiful sunny day on the river."
