Ex football star admits drink-driving

Ex-football star Terry Yorath today pleaded guilty to drink-driving and careless driving after a woman pedestrian was hit by a car.

Police stopped the former Leeds United player in Leeds after a woman was knocked down by his Jaguar X-type on June 24.

Yorath, 54, the father of TV sports presenter Gabby Logan, entered the guilty pleas at Leeds Magistrates Court.

Yorath was found to have 120 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The maximum permitted level is 35 micrograms.

Peter Jeffries, prosecuting, told the court that Yorath approached the roundabout at the ring road of the A61 near to a church when the incident happened.

The court heard Yorath mounted the central reservation in his Jaguar X-type car and hit a young lady who was crossing the road.

Mr Jeffries said: "She was knocked down and taken to hospital where she was treated for a broken pelvis."

The court heard she had to take six to eight weeks off of work and had suffered bad headaches since.

When interviewed by police after the acident the former soccer star said: "It's the worst thing that's ever happened to me. I hate it. I just feel so sorry for the girl."

The hearing was adjourned for pre-sentence reports until August 24 at Leeds Magistrates' Court.
