Fewer saving for a pension

GOVERNMENT pleas for people to invest for their retirement are falling on deaf ears. Latest figures show that fewer people - less than a third of the population - are contributing to a pension scheme than a year ago.

A report from the Alliance & Leicester warns that Britons need to save £27bn a year towards retirement but figures show that only 30% are making pension contributions, down from 32%.

There is growing evidence that investors are wary of seeing pension savings invested on stock markets.
