Flight panic as scorpion attacks at 30,000ft

12 April 2012

An air passenger told of his terror after being stung by a scorpion 30,000 feet above North America.

Jeff Ellis, 55, feared he would suffer anaphylactic shock after it crawled up his arm and bit him on a flight from Seattle to Anchorage.

"In the movies, scorpions kill," he said. "I was on edge, making sure my heart was beating normally." The scorpion is thought to have crawled on at an earlier stop in Texas.

Alaska Airlines has offered Mr Ellis 4,000 frequent-flier miles and two round-trip tickets.
