Flights liquid ban must stay in fizz fears

The Government has blocked the relaxation of a ban on carrying liquids in airline hand luggage, amid concerns over champagne corks.

Security checks might have involved bottles being opened to test liquid before replacing the cap, but this would not be possible for champagne bottles because the corks cannot be put back in.

Transport Secretary Philip Hammond told airport operators that the first phase in relaxing restrictions will not go ahead as planned on April 29. He has imposed a six-month delay because of ongoing security concerns.
