Footage has captured the extent of a huge fire at a recycling factory that continues to burn nearly 24 hours after being reported.

The fire in Clarel Avenue, Birmingham, involving up to 800 tonnes of mixed plastic, rubber and metal, started at around 2pm on Tuesday.

Around 70 firefighters are continuing to tackle the blaze at the scrap metal recycling centre.

West Midlands Fire Service said crews made "good progress" in dealing with the fire overnight despite challenging conditions.

A statement from the fire service said: "We're likely to remain there for a good part of today."

The footage shows the continuing effort by the fire service to try and stop the flames that could be seen across the city.

At its peak more than 100 firefighters were drafted in to tackle the "severe" blaze, which is believed to have started accidentally.

Around 4,000 homes were warned they could lose electricity last night as the site of the fire is underneath pylons.

But Western Power Distribution said all supplies were restored to customers by 9pm.
