Friends of a retired Salvation Army officer found dead while on holiday in Hong Kong have paid tribute to her as a man is in police custody on suspicion of her murder.

The body of Major Janet Gilson, 64, who lived in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, was found at her niece's home in Lamma yesterday. She had suffered head injuries. A 29-year-old man has been arrested.

Major Carol Bailey, of the Salvation Army, said she was "deeply spiritual and highly respected".
