George Osborne will go quietly if fired, reveals David Cameron

"Big man": George Osborne

David Cameron today revealed that George Osborne has said he would go quietly if fired from his job as shadow chancellor.

The Tory leader praised his close friend as "a big man" who would not shirk important decisions nor put his own career first. "To be fair to George, he said if you ever want to move me to another job it is your decision and it's your right," Mr Cameron reveals in an ITV documentary on Sunday night.

His disclosure came as veteran Tory MP Sir Patrick Cormack called for former chancellor Kenneth Clarke to be given as big a role as possible in the election campaign. Sir Patrick told the Standard: "Mr Clarke is a very experienced and seasoned campaigner." Mr Cameron reveals that it was Mr Osborne's decision to bring Mr Clarke back to the front line as shadow business secretary.
