Girl falls 30ft from flat and only needs Calpol

A mother told today how her 15-month-old daughter plunged head first 30ft from their second-floor flat yet crawled away virtually unhurt.

Neighbours discovered Tayjha Brown lying on her back on the grass completely still and apparently lifeless. They feared she was dead but after a short stay in hospital all she needed was some Calpol for her bruises.

She had been playing with her brother Shakeem, three, in the living room and had used the sofa to clamber on to the window sill.
Their mother, Khion, 24, was making lunch at the time in their two-bedroom council flat in Streatham.

Speaking for the first time since the fall last week, Ms Brown said: "Shakeem came in and said, mummy, Tayjha has fallen out the window'. I ran and looked down and just thought, Oh my God, that's it'.

"I ran down screaming and the first thing I saw was her eyes wide open and I thought, Thank God'.
"My neighbours were all trying to hold me back and telling me not to touch her in case she had a serious injury.

"But then, shakily, she managed to get into the crawling position and I picked her up. It was only after she saw how upset I was and all the
people around that she started
crying."

The London air ambulance landed nearby and flew Tayjha to St George's Hospital in Tooting, where she was kept for two nights to check for
injuries.

Ms Brown said: "They did all the X-rays and found she's fine. The next morning she was up on her feet in hospital, laughing and smiling. All she had was Calpol."

Ms Brown has since screwed shut the lounge window and has re- arranged her furniture to prevent a repeat incident.

She said: "I have been through so many emotions this week I just want to keep them in my sight at all times now. I can't stop smiling and crying. I can't imagine life without her."
