Grandson arrested in police manhunt after woman, 83, is beaten to death

The grandson of an 83-year-old woman found beaten to death in her home was arrested by police today after three days on the run.

James Langlands, also known as Jack, 26, was held by officers in the Peterborough area, the Metropolitan Police said.

He is wanted for questioning over the murder of Doris Langlands at her home in Winchmore Hill, north London, on Sunday.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "A man detectives appealed to trace in connection with the murder of Doris Langlands in Winchmore Hill on Sunday April 4 has been arrested.

"James Malcolm Langlands, also known as Jack, 26, was arrested this afternoon in the Peterborough area. He is currently in custody at a Peterborough police station. Inquiries continue."

Mrs Langlands was found dead with head injuries at her home in Green Dragon Lane on Sunday evening.

Neighbours paid tribute to the pensioner, describing her as "friendly", "sweet" and a "traditional grandmother".

Police issued an appeal to find Mr Langlands soon afterwards and warned the public not approach him.
