Hewitt slashes the red tape

TRADE Secretary Patricia Hewitt has cut red tape for 69,000 small firms. They need no longer have full audits of their accounts, after she lifted the threshold for audits from £1m to £5.6m annual turnover.

That could save firms £94m a year. They will also reap tax benefits from a rise in the turnover limits that define small and medium-sized firms.
