HSBC: Boss defends outsourcing

13 April 2012

THE head of HSBC has claimed it is 'responsible and right' to export jobs to the Third World.

Stephen Green, a multi-millionaire and Anglican lay preacher, made the comment as he announced astonishing half-year profits of £5.14bn, or £28m a day. This is a 53% increase on last year.

Mr Green, who earned £2.67m last year, said: 'We

are creating new jobs in places like Sri Lanka. We believe this is the responsible and right thing to do.'

HSBC has 110m customers worldwide, 10m of them in the UK. It employs 9,000 staff in low-cost locations abroad and is increasing that to 13,500 this year while slashing its British workforce by 7,500.
