Half of Britons have trouble remembering what they did a week ago, a new study shows. Millions have such poor short-term memories that we find phone numbers, birthdays and anniversaries tricky to recall.

Men are more forgetful than women, researchers for directory service 11 88 66 found. They blamed modern 'soundbite culture' for filling people's heads with information and suggested that we do puzzles and crosswords to train our minds.
