Icy blast gives Britain a freezing fortnight

Cold warning: Britain will be hit by a front from Scandanavia
12 April 2012

Bitterly cold weather from Scandanavia is to hit Britain over the next fortnight, it was forecast today.

Temperatures could drop to minus 3C by tomorrow with some parts of northern England and Scotland expected to go as low as minus 7C.

The two-week cold blast is expected to give way to warm and dry weather. It is not certain if conditions will be right for a White Christmas.

In recent weeks, the country has faced the full fury of Atlantic storms. Met Office figures reveal that rainfall from 16 October to 6 December was 319.8mm, 64 per cent above average for this period.

It was also the wettest November on record.
