Jessica's a real winner in the race for a perfect physique

Fab abs: Jessica Ennis trains for seven hours a day, six days a week
12 April 2012

British heptathlete Jessica Ennis was today hailed as having the perfect athletic physique.

Trainers said her rigorous training regime is an inspiration to others - as long as they can train seven hours a day, six days a week, and can lose practically all body fat.

Over the course of a four-year Olympic training cycle, Ennis says she will train for 10,000 hours. Experts say the variety of events is a key to her look.

"Because Jessica Ennis is a heptathlete she is putting her body through a lot of different movements," said Gillian Reeves, Virgin Active health clubs group exercise manager. "It's quite a bit of work to get abs like Jessica's, you really do have to dedicate your life to it. People are inspired by athletes like Jessica, and its great, far better than looking at supermodels for inspiration."

Personal trainer Ricardo Macedo said: "You need to have a very low body fat percentage, with lots of exercise. It's not something you can get without putting in a lot of work."

Despite the praise, Ennis was likely to have to settle for silver in the defence of her world title. Her worst javelin performance for four years meant she had make up an unlikely nine seconds in the 800m today to beat Russia's Tatyana Chernova.
