Lack of air controllers cuts flights

12 April 2012

Air travellers suffered delays today as planes were cancelled because of an apparent lack of air traffic controllers,

writes Wayne Vesey.

A number of flights from London to the North of England were postponed, as were other flights from Glasgow to the South, causing delays of up to three hours.

Travellers were told there was a shortage of air traffic controllers. This comes after a series of glitches in recent months when the National Air Traffic Control System crashed.

A British Airways spokesman said: "We don't have a full picture of what's going on at the moment. We are just working out what flights are affected. Apparently it is a problem with Nats. We will update the information continously."
