London Marathon 2016 route compressed into three minute timelapse video

This exclusive timelapse video compresses the 26-mile route London Marathon route into just three minutes.

Beginning in Greenwich and winding its way around south London before crossing the Thames at Tower Bridge, the course gives runners a glimpse of the London Eye before channeling them past Big Ben and finally down The Mall.

It even whips past Buckingham Palace on its final bend.

If this video leaves you out of breath, spare a thought for the 35,000 athletes who have been training for Sunday's race for months.

The London Marathon in numbers

The video ends on The Mall, where the runners' finish line will be, under glorious sunshine - which may be a far cry from Sunday's weather, with some forecasts suggesting snow – a first for the London Marathon.

One tourist with an outstretched palm even high-fives the Standard's reporter as he comes to a stop on the iconic road, flanked by Union Flags and approaching the Admiralty Arch - set to be a welcome sight for exhausted runners on Sunday.
