Making a splash - Plinth mermaid

This month may have been a bit damp, but the latest participant in Trafalgar Square's Fourth Plinth project seemed to be expecting wetter conditions.

Natalie Simpson, 34, of Stoke Newington, dressed as a mermaid as part of a campaign for the group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals to encourage the public not to eat fish.

She is one of a number of volunteers to be selected for artist Antony Gormley's One & Other project that began this month, in which participants are allotted a time to occupy the plinth.
