Man arrested in Heathrow security scare

Armed police arrested a man at Heathrow Airport today after a suspicious package sparked a major security scare.

Hundreds of travellers and staff were evacuated from Terminal 5 during the stand-off which started at around 12.20pm.

The man, believed to be white and 72-years-old, was arrested in the departures area. He had not gone through security.

An airport spokesman said the terminal was closed temporarily and BA warned some flights could be delayed.

The terminal later reopened.
