Memorial to World War II secret agents vandalised

Vandals damaged a London war memorial honouring British agents who fought with the resistance in Europe during the Second World War.

Police are investigating after the Vincennes War Memorial in West Norwood had its sun dial ripped off.

Wreaths are laid in Carnac Street every year in tribute to secret agents working for the Special Operations Executive and resistance fighters, many of whom died in Nazi concentration camps.

They include Violette Szabo, a Parisienne who lived in Brixton. She was executed after sabotaging the French rail network.
