Met 'revenge' fears rejected

13 April 2012

The Met Police have lost a High Court battle for firearms officers in fear of potential "revenge attacks" to be allowed to give evidence from behind a screen at an inquiry into a fatal police shooting.

Met lawyers asked Lord Justice Laws and Mr Justice Simon to quash the inquiry chairman's refusal to allow them to be fully screened from view at the investigation into the death of Azelle Rodney, 24.

Mr Rodney, who was not armed, was in a car when an officer opened fire in Edgware in April 2005.

The officer who fired the shots will be screened but not the 13 others involved.
