Metrodome wins loony German deal

12 April 2012

FILM distributor Metrodome has won the UK video rights to children's cartoon Pongwiffy in a deal leaving German media group TV-Loonland with a controlling shareholding.

Metrodome has paid £1.25m in shares to TV-Loonland, one of the world's biggest producers of children's cartoons, for the right to sell videos and DVDs of its series.

These include Pongwiffy, a series screened on Children's ITV about a witch that features the voices of Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, and BBC childrens TV's The Cramp Twins and Yvon of the Yukon.

TV-Loonland took a 29.9% stake in Metrodome last year and its holding will now rise to 54%. It has received a Takeover Panel waiver so it does not have to launch a full bid.

Metrodome has restructured in the past year, leaving it with losses of £3.3m, to refocus on distribution, where its recent films include Last Orders, starring Michael Caine.
