Mile-long air raid tunnels for sale

Evening Standard13 April 2012

TUNNELS dug 100ft below London as air raid shelters during the Second World War are up for sale.

The mile-long Kingsway Tunnels, beneath Holborn, were built in 1940 to hold about 8,000 people.

After the war they were used by the Government to store secret documents, and were then handed to the General Post Office.

Now BT, formerly part of the GPO, has decided to sell them. No guide price has been issued.

The tunnels could be turned into a cinema or nightclub.
