Missing adoption case boy found safe

Concerns for welfare: Kanan, four

A London boy who disappeared with a couple who had hoped to adopt him has been found safe.

Police were looking for Darren and Marcia Langton after they vanished with the four-year-old, known only as Kanan, hours before they were due to hand him back to Newham council.

Social workers had "serious concerns" about his welfare and were to collect him on Tuesday.

Sixteen months ago, Kanan was sent to live with the Langtons in Doncaster. Mr Langton, 40, a self-employed planning consultant, and his wife, a 46-year-old law graduate, moved to Skegness on the coast last month.

Mr Langton is due to appear before magistrates this month on an unrelated assault charge. Police had said that Kanan was not thought to be at risk. A Newham council spokesman said: "In recent weeks we were made aware of serious concerns which led us to take court action to return him to our care."

Kanan was found by police in Doncaster last night. A woman, 46, was arrested on suspicion of abduction.

Mr Langton has not been traced.
