Mother charged with murder of daughter, 3

12 April 2012

A mother was charged with the murder of her three-year-old daughter.

Helen Mary Caudwell, 41, is due in court accused of killing Bethany Marie Kennerley who was found collapsed at her home in Cheadle Heath, Greater Manchester, shortly before 9.40am on Saturday.

A post-mortem examination concluded the youngster died from upper airway obstruction consistent with smothering.

Paramedics discovered the body of the girl when they were called to the house on Redwood Close. Bethany was pronounced dead at the scene.

Caudwell was taken to hospital from the address with slash wounds to her wrists.

Paying tribute to Bethany, her father and grandparents said in a statement released earlier this week: "To our darling Boo. You will always be in our memories and thoughts, rest in peace, lots of love.

"She was the most beautiful, clever and amazing girl a dad could wish for."

Caudwell is due to appear before Stockport Magistrates' Court tomorrow morning.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission will probe the contact that officers had with Bethany's family in the days before she died.
