Murdoch calls for China reform

MEDIA mogul Rupert Murdoch said China has the potential to become 'a new global centre for media and entertainment', but the economy needs major reform.

'There are considerable improvements to be made in its trade practices and economic policies,' Murdoch told the Asia Society in New York, acknowledging the country was grappling with profound demographic changes.

Murdoch's News Corporation became one of the first to win rights to broadcast in China in 2001.
