New Nine Elms Tube stop chosen

Awaiting approval: the £950 million Northen line extension would run from Kennington to Battersea

The location of a new Tube station for the planned £950 million Northern line extension from Kennington to Battersea is set to be approved by Lambeth council next week.

The site in Wandsworth Road, Nine Elms, is the preferred option for the project, which would also see a new Tube stop created at Battersea power station.

Real Estate Opportunities, owner of the power station, has gone into administration but the Government says it will meet its £200 million commitment to the scheme if a new developer is found swiftly.

Critics claims the new spur is not needed.
