Gardens: the new battleground

We've had road rage, cycle rage and air rage but now we are being hit by a new fury - rose rage.

It seems that, even in the placid surroundings of the back garden, we cannot escape being irritated by other people's behaviour.

Nearly a third of homeowners have argued with neighbours over a garden-related issue, a poll suggests, while three per cent have even gone as far as sabotaging a neighbour's garden to get their own back.

Noise is the most common problem, with barking dogs followed by loud music and even the sounds of overamorous couples being cited as major annoyances.

Adam Pasco, editor of BBC Gardeners'World magazine, said: 'Gardening inspires a huge range of emotions but we would encourage people to focus on the positive ones rather than giving way to rose rage.'
