Paintball stall set up next to de Jean Charles de Menezes shrine

A paintball firm was today accused of insensitivity after setting up a stall outside Stockwell Tube station, scene of the shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes.

Salesmen showed off high-powered paint weapons only feet in front of a shrine for Mr de Menezes.

The 27-year-old Brazilian electrician was shot dead by police on a Northern line train. He had been pursued into the station by police on July 22 2005 in the aftermath of the July 7 bombings.

One local worker, James Parker, said: "The company should be a little more sensitive when they set these things up." Lambeth council sent officers to investigate but the salesmen had gone.

Divan Bower, from the Ministry of Paintball, said: "It is strange that they set up there. "Of course this shouldn't happen, it won't happen again."
