Former England football star Paul Gascoigne will appear in court today charged with drink-driving.

The former Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was arrested in February after an incident at a takeaway in Leeming Bar, North Yorkshire.

The 42-year-old is due to appear at Northallerton Magistrates' Court, where he will also face charges of driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

A 40-year-old man was charged with drink-driving, being in charge of a motor vehicle while over the limit, driving while disqualified and driving without insurance in connection with the same incident.

He will also appear in court today.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle after police were called to Leeming Bar at 9.10pm on February 7.

They were later released on bail pending further inquiries.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said today: "The two men answered bail at Northallerton police station yesterday and were charged with a number offences.

"The 42-year-old man was charged with drink-driving, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

"The 40-year-old man was charged with drink-driving, being in charge of a motor vehicle whilst over the limit, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance."

They will appear at Northallerton Magistrates' Court on April 16.
