Peace camp in Parliament Sq celebrates 10th anniversary

Protesters who have been camped outside the Houses of Parliament for a decade today promised to continue their vigil until ministers "come to their senses" over foreign policy.

Today marks 10 years since Brian Haw, pictured, set up camp in Parliament Square as a protest over economic sanctions against Iraq. Other protesters who have arrived since then are being taken to the High Court by Westminster council for obstructing the pavement.

Mr Haw is in Germany being treated for lung cancer, but fellow protester Barbara Tucker said he wanted to return. She added: "I sincerely hope we will not be here in 10 years' time, but for the right reasons. [This will be when] enough people stand up and those people across the
road [in Parliament] come to their senses."

Westminster council leader Colin Barrow said it was time to reclaim the square for all Londoners.
