Plea to Prince Charles over 'hideous' flats

"Striking": the brightly-coloured flats which residents claim have damaged views of Windsor Castle

PRINCE Charles has been asked to intervene after residents claimed a development has "ruined" a historic view of Windsor Castle.

The block of 16 apartments, penthouses and townhouses, each costingmore than £1million, is described by developer Hadley Property Group as "one of the most exclusive addresses on the River Thames" with terraces overlooking the castle.

But protesters claim that the "hideous" turquoise development, which was completed in August, has ruined the view of the castle.

They have written to Charles asking him to use his influence as High Steward of Windsor and Maidenhead to help. Windsor and Maidenhead council said it refused planning permission for the block but was over-ruled by the Planning Inspectorate.

The developers defended the "striking" building but leading protester Hester Davenport said: "It is hideous, appalling. The least the developers can do is paint it a neutral colour. It has completely hijacked the riverside."
