Police to re-stage jogger stabbing

Detectives investigating the horrific attack on a female jogger in a park are planning a major reconstruction.

Police are linking the latest stabbing to the murder of Margaret Muller in Victoria Park, Hackney, 10 months ago - when the largest ever reconstruction was staged in a bid to find the killer.

Police say the attacks - both on brunette women about five foot tall who were alone in parks at the time - are "disturbingly similar and very likely" the work of the same knifeman.

Clissold Park in Stoke Newington, where the latest attack happened at dusk on Friday, is just two miles from the scene of Ms Muller's murder.

Detective Chief Superintendent John Shatford, who is leading the investigation said: "Unless we have significant new forensic evidence, we will look to stage a reconstruction."

He added that the killer may have prowled local parks looking for a victim. "We have to face facts - this man could strike again."

The as yet unnamed 39-year-old victim of Friday's stabbing described the attacker as white, five foot six inches tall, in his early twenties or younger and wearing a white hooded top.

The woman, who is in a stable condition in hospital, was stabbed by a man who had been hiding behind bushes. A passing doctor worked to save the woman's life.
