Premier League footballer denies nightclub assault charge

Newcastle striker Andy Carroll appeared in court today to deny a nightclub assault.

The England Under-21 international is accused of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on his alleged victim Michael Cook in the Blu Bambu club on December 7.

He appeared before Newcastle Crown Court to officially enter a not guilty plea.

The 6ft 4in forward wore a dark suit, white shirt and black and white striped tie, and signed autographs for fans before the case was heard.

His long hair was kept in place with a band.
He stood with his hands behind his back as the charge was put to him.

His trial will be held before Judge John Milford in October and will last up to four days.
