Racists launch voodoo web bid to topple Lewis LewisHamilton

Gerard Couzens13 April 2012

SPANISH bigots have targeted Lewis Hamilton on a voodoo-style website aimed at scuppering his dreams of becoming Formula One champion.

Hundreds of racists have left messages taunting the mixed-race driver over the colour of his skin in a hate campaign reminiscent of the racial abuse he received when he tested a new car at the start of the year in Barcelona. The abuse was posted on a website titled Pincha la Rueda de Hamilton Spanish for "burst Hamilton's tyre".

It says: "Hamilton can't finish the race, we have to stop him however we can" and encourages visitors to leave imaginary nails for Lewis on a mock-up of the Brazilian racetrack where he hopes to win the Formula One championship this Sunday. Last night more than 16,000 people had signed up.

One message read: "Half-breed, kill yourself in your car." Another says: "I hope you run over your dad in the first pit stop, Hamilton." Spanish fans of Hamilton's rival, Renault driver Fernando Alonso, are believed to be behind the black magic bid to ensure the 23-year-old fails in Brazil.

The Mclaren driver only needs to finish fifth to take Alonso's crown as the sport's youngest F1 champion. He would become the first Briton to win since Damon Hill in 1996.
