Regent Street at 200mph?

13 April 2012

The drama and excitement of Formula 1 comes to London this evening in a unique parade of racing cars.

The Formula 1 cars will be parading down Regent Street from 6pm to 8pm. This will be the first time that the cars have been allowed out of a race course in this country.

The view might be limited in some areas of Regent Street, so additional large screens will be sited in Hanover Gardens, Hanover Square and Great Marlborough Street for everyone to get a good view of the action. Drivers from the Jordan team will be making visits to their stand in Hanover Gardens for signings throughout the day.

Held in the run-up to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend, the organisers see the event as an opportunity to showcase London's ability to host major events like the Olympic Games.

The event means Regent Street and some surrounding roads will be closed. Regent Street itself will be closed to private vehicles (and taxis) from 10am to 1am. The organisers are also advising that vehicle owners avoid the area and use alternative routes.

Regent Street will be closed for buses from 3pm to 11pm and the following routes will be affected: 3, 6, 8, 9, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 22, 23, 25, 38, 55, 88, 94, 139, 159, 176, 453.

Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus Tube stations are both on the route. Green Park, Bond Street, Leicester Square and Tottenham Court Road are nearby. The nearest mainline railway station is Charing Cross.
