Rod Stewart's son faces jail

Rod Stewart's son Sean faces a possible jail sentence for allegedly beating up a student.

The 21-year-old denies assault and, as he left a Los Angeles court, claimed he was now free of "drug and alcohol problems".

Accompanied by his mother, Alana, he said: "I've now got a better life." He is accused of beating up 19-year-old Jason Rogland outside a Malibu restaurant.

Police say he spat on the windscreen of Mr Rogland's car then attacked him with fists and feet when he complained, knocking him unconscious.

Dean Cain, star of the TV show Lois And Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman, reportedly came to the rescue and held Stewart until police arrived.

Stewart appeared in court for a procedural hearing. The judge ordered him to return on 8 July for possible trial or a plea-bargain deal, it was claimed.

His lawyer Jonathan Kissell revealed that Stewart - charged with assault with a deadly weapon - had been having "anger management" treatment. "There has been no hint of violence involving this young man in the past, but these sessions are to help him get more of a grip on himself."

Mr Kissell is believed to be trying to work out a deal which will avoid prison if Stewart pleads guilty to a lesser charge.

Rod Stewart was asked by defence lawyers not to come to court because of his "notoriety".
