Royal support for victims of violence

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall visited the refuge and advice centre set up in Tottenham for victims of the riots.

During a tour of the worst-hit areas of the capital, the couple met volunteers, including the Salvation Army, who have set up kiosks at the Tottenham Green Leisure Centre offering financial advice, housing support and counselling.

The royal couple visited the leisure centre in north London, and saw firsthand the emergency relief effort that has got under way to help those affected get their lives back on track.

The Prince's trust plans to double its support for young people in Manchester, Birmingham and the London communities of Hackney, Tottenham and Croydon.

As well as committing £1 million from funds already raised, the charity is calling on the business community to back a £1.5 million fundraising drive to bring in the rest of the cash.
