Tears at Hollioake's funeral

Frank Throne12 April 2012

The funeral for young England cricketer Ben Hollioake was held today at a Catholic church in Perth, Western Australia.

Hollioake died in a car crash early on Saturday when his black Porsche skidded off a motorway sliproad and hit a brick wall. The family of Hollioake's girlfriend, Janaya Scholten, who is critically ill in hospital, also attended the service.

Cricket celebrities from England and Australia joined 24-year-old Hollioake's grieving mother and father Daria and John Hollioake together with brother and fellow England international Adam and sister Eboni at an hour-long mass at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.

Among the mourners was England captain Nasser Hussain who was joined by former England skipper Alec Stewart, flanked by chairman of selectors David Graveney. Hollioake's club Surrey were represented by Stewart and by Mike Soper, chairman of Surrey County Cricket Club.

There will be a cremation and private family funeral tomorrow.
