Teen behind bars for hiding murder gun

12 April 2012

A teenager was locked up for three-and-a-half years today for hiding a gun which was used in a murder.

Akinyemi Aiyeola, 18, of Walworth, was ordered to serve the youth custody after being found guilty at the Old Bailey of looking after the gun and ammunition.

They were found in a bedroom at his home in November last year by detectives investigating the shooting of Daniel Duke.

Mr Duke, 22, was shot around November 2 last year in Ambergate Street, Kennington, by two masked men.

Aiyeola told detectives that he was threatened by an unknown man into storing the gun at his house.

Detective Inspector Dave Rock, from Operation Trident, said: "I hope that the conviction acts as a deterrent to anyone who thinks that it is acceptable to hold a gun for other criminals."

He appealed for help to find witnesses to the shooting. Two men were cleared of murder during an earlier trial.
