Teenage mother's pain of being in labour for 20 days

12 April 2012

A TEENAGE mother today told of her agony giving birth after claiming to be in labour for 20 days.

Amy Buck, 17, was five-and-a-half months pregnant when she started what is thought to be the slowest labour in medical history.

Her son Daniel, who weighed just 1lb3oz at birth and was in intensive care for five months, celebrated his first birthday today.

Miss Buck, who lives with Daniel's father Martin Barwell, 20, in Morecambe, said: "I don't know how it was possible for me to be in labour for the best part of 20 days and Daniel to survive. He's little miracle."

A spokesman for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists said: "The average labour is about 12 hours for someone having their first baby and the longest I've heard of was 48 hours."
