The Chelsea gets rid of star graffiti

Artwork and graffiti on the walls of Manhattan's Hotel Chelsea, a favourite of artists and writers since the Thirties, is being removed, leading to accusations that the developer is being "middle-brow".

Residents included Marilyn Monroe, Andy Warhol and Bob Dylan. Sid Vicious's girlfriend Nancy Spungen died in room 100.
