Theresa May: I'll put more police on beat

Home Secretary Theresa May today stated that putting police back on the beat and cutting bureaucracy were among the new government's top priorities.

She was speaking during a walkabout at Battersea's Winstanley Estate, wearing her trademark leopard print shoes.

Ms May was escorted by Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson, right, and met a neighbourhood policing team, left. She risked a clash with senior officers by saying that she intended to press ahead with establishing elected police commissioners.
