Thieves take 90-year-old tortoises

Thieves have stolen a pair of 90-year-old tortoises - creating fears the two could be separated for the first time.

Fred and Frieda were snatched from the stable where they slept at Hounslow Urban Farm, Feltham. Owner Mary Wilks said they could die if not properly cared for as they have just come out of hibernation.

"Animals have the ability to miss each other and it would not help the tortoises to be separated," she said. "I just hope they have not been sold on."

Det Sgt Ross Foxwell said: "I ask anyone who knows where these tortoises are to contact police."
