UK relief as Bombardier cuts jobs

TRAINS and planes maker Bombardier was today set to axe more than 6,000 jobs but its train-making plant in Derby, which employs 1,800 and is to supply 1,700 carriages for the Tube, will escape.

Jobs will be lost at the smaller Derby maintenance factory and at Wakefield. Germany, Spain and Portugal will bear the brunt.
