Unemployed London man faces life after admitting murdering father

12 April 2012

An unemployed man today pleaded guilty to murdering his father and hiding his body in a carpet at the family home.

Charles Heath, 65, was last seen on October 6, last year, but his body was not discovered until six weeks later.

Mr Heath, a retired French polisher, had been attacked with a hammer but the exact cause of death could not be found because of the time which had elapsed.

John Heath, 34, of Oban Street, Poplar, east London, pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey to murder and perverting justice.

He faces a life sentence and was remanded in custody to be dealt with tomorrow.

His brother Robert, 28, pleaded guilty to the perverting justice charge and was also remanded to tomorrow.

The prosecution indicated that a murder charge against Robert would not be proceeded with.

Police found Charles Heath's body in a bedroom at the Oban Street home after complaints from neighbours.
