US teenager slams car into bridge at 100mph

12 April 2012
An American teenager is fighting for his life after smashing his car into the concrete pillar of a motorway bridge.

A police camera captured the moment Brennan Eden, 19, of Ohio, lost control of his Pontiac Firebird at 100mph.

The force of the crash broke the car into three pieces but Mr Eden was thrown clear.

"He went down into the grass, hit the guardrail, went airborne and the car hit the centre post of the bridge and literally exploded," said witness Mark Riley.

Police said Brennan was alert and conscious after the crash and was in critical condition in hospital.

"He is very lucky to still be alive at this point," said Lieutenant Marty Fellure. "You can see the impact he took and where he got ejected and landed, he's a very fortunate man right now."
