Video shows 'Christmas Day bomber' training with al Qaeda

12 April 2012

A video has emerged showing the Christmas Day bomber firing guns at an al Qaeda training camp in Yemen.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, 23, is being held in an American jail on charges that he tried to bring down a Detroit-bound plane with explosives in his underwear.

The video, broadcast in America, shows the Nigerian student firing weapons and speaking in Arabic about his impending attack. He reads from the Koran and says: "God said those who punish you must be punished."

According to ABC News, the video was produced by al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Abdulmutallab and others are shown firing at targets, including a Union Flag, a Jewish symbol and one labelled "UN."

The former president of the Islamic Society at University College London was arrested after the explosives failed to ignite.

Abdulmutallab has been speaking to investigators, discussing his contacts in Yemen and providing intelligence in multiple terrorism investigations, according to US officials.
