Wessex probe police target Malaysia

12 April 2012

FRAUD squad officers are deciding whether to take their bribery investigation into arrested Wessex Water chairman and chief executive Colin Skellett to Malaysia, centre of the alleged crime.

Investigators recently returned from Texas, where they were interviewing executives at Wessex's former owner Azurix, part of collapsed energy trader Enron.

Skellett, 57, was arrested after allegations that he took a near-£1m bung during the takeover of Wessex by Malaysian utility YTL Power. Amid suggestions they may have blundered when they arrested him, police are sifting the Houston evidence before deciding whether investigators should visit the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. Skellett has been bailed until January.
