William asks for Aston Villa kit

12 April 2012

Prince William is an Aston Villa fan and asked his father to "negotiate" a pair of shorts from his favourite club, the Prince of Wales has revealed.

Charles told 500 dinner guests at Aston Villa Football Club in Birmingham that the young prince was an avid supporter.

Speaking last night at the Recognition Awards for his charity, The Prince's Trust, the Prince raised cheers when he said: "My eldest son - and I don't know quite why - seems to be a keen supporter of Aston Villa.

"He was very interested to hear I was coming here and seems to be very keen for me to get him some Villa shorts. I am sure I will be open to negotiations."

The Prince singled out Trust ambassador and Villa striker Dion Dublin for praise, adding: "I am very grateful to Dion Dublin for being so extraordinarily generous with his time."
